Alan Ray Hamilton, 69

Alan Ray Hamilton, “Buff,” 69, of Chillicothe, finally lost his courageous struggle with cancer and was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Monday, September19th with his loving family by his side.

Alan is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jaimene (Dee Dee), son Troy of Chillicothe, daughter Hope of Largo, Fl sister Janet L. Lawwell, grandsons Calvin (Michele) Thatcher, Jacob Thatcher and Calob Thatcher, six nephews, three nieces, brother-in-law Norman J. Wiggins (Carol) sister-in-law Diane (Gary) Williams, an uncle, Heber (Corrie) Jones, numerous cousins, his friend of 64 years, Jim Milstead and his classmates from The Portsmouth West Class of ’65.

Alan was preceded in death by his mother, Millie Hamilton, father Bob Hamilton, sister, Ruth Ann Hamilton, mother-in-law Nan Berger, father-in-law James V. Wiggins (Polly) and brothers-in-law Raymond P. Wiggins, Tom Chandler and Frank Lawwell.

Alan proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a radioman during the Vietnam War on the flagship of the 7th Fleet, The USS Providence (CLG-6). He was a member of the Admiral’s staff as a Petty Officer 2nd Class and when the USS Pueblo was seized by N. Korea, Alan received and hand delivered President Johnson’s message to the Admiral as to what action to take against the aggressors.

Alan owned and operated his own HVAC business prior to working at Budd Wheel for 14 years. Alan retired from Glatfelter Paper Company in Chillicothe and developed many friendships during his 20 years of employment. He also had numerous friends in and around the farm community where he and Dee Dee lived. Alan was the founder and president of The Dry Run Boys Club, a Mason at Scioto Lodge No. 6 F.&A.M. and was proud of his Dry Run heritage with a life long connection to The Dry Run Church of Christ. He liked Gravely mowers, outdoor activities, his 1967 Mustang Fastback, cut-off t-shirts and cowboy boots. He loved his Class of ’65 classmates, the class reunions where he could tell lies about his high school experiences with the best of them, the class picnics and especially the class luncheons. Alan loved life, his family, his farm, flea markets, his dogs, dancing and his friends. He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind until the day we are all joined together once again on the streets of gold.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Reverend Gary Hopkins officiating.
