Douglas E. “Doug” Coleman, 65 of West Portsmouth died Thursday September 1, 2016 at the James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio. He was born August 5, 1951 in West Portsmouth to the late Clay and Gaynelle Priode Coleman. Doug retired from Boone Coleman Construction after 43 years working as a teamster (Local 292) from 1969-2012, he was a former Washington Township trustee for 24 years. He was a member of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department and a Scioto County Sherriff Special Deputy. His affiliated memberships included BPOE 154, Sons of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and the Scioto County Farm Bureau. Doug was currently a Scioto County Commissioner. 

Doug was a hard worker and worked tirelessly helping others. He especially enjoyed taking grandkids and neighbors, nieces and nephews on his special dump truck hayrides. He enjoyed supporting area youth with local sports team sponsorships. As an avid Packers fan Doug always looked forward to watching NFL football with his wife. Doug had a bold and adventurous spirit and was often seen flying his Ultra Light Glider along side his friend Phil LaJoye. With his family’s construction background, just like his brothers, Doug loved his heavy equipment and especially his dump trucks.  

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by 7 brothers; Jerry, Bill, Bob, Boone, Ervin, Russ, and Larry Coleman and father in law William “Bill” Conley.

Doug is survived by his wife Cathy Conley Coleman whom he married August 16, 1969, a daughter Tracy (Scott) Bauer of West Portsmouth, 3 grandchildren; Brooke Bauer, Brennan Bauer, and Nick Davis, all of West Portsmouth, 2 sisters; Delores (Tom) Book of Lawrenceville, GA, Maxine (Harry) Cassidy of West Portsmouth, mother in law Pauline Conley, 2 brothers in law; Tim (Cri) Conley and Mike (Kim) Conley, 6 sisters in law; Bev (Steve) Mignerey,  Jan, Joyce, Juanita, Barbara and Pat Coleman. Doug was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who all held a special place in his heart. Along with a dear family friend Phil LaJoye whom he looked upon as a son.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday September 5, 2016 at the Scioto County Courthouse Rotunda with Pastors, Pete Shaffer, Alex Bloomfield, and Elder Vicki Bloomfield officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park.  Friends may call at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth from 1:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday and from 11 to 1:00 PM on Monday at the Court House. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Animal Welfare League of Scioto County 740-858-2446, and Sierra’s Haven in Doug’s name.  Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com.
