James Orin Foster, 83
James Orin Foster, 83 of West Portsmouth, died Wednesday January 4, 2017 at his home. He was born May 22, 1933 in West Portsmouth to the late Mark Hannah and Lucy E. Sparks Foster. He was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War. James was retired from Goodyear Atomic Plant where he was a Fireman for 34 years. He was also a Circuit Rider for 14 years for the Blue Bird Parish and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Along with his parents James was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Lowell, Stephen and Mark Foster and a sister June Stone.
James is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty R Elrod Foster, whom he married on August 29, 1953, a daughter Rhonda Karlene Foster, 3 sons; James Kenneth Foster, Neal Christopher (Susan) Foster and Scott Eric Foster, 4 grandchildren; Olivia Foster, Noah Foster, Michelle (George) Bennett and Jennifer (Eric) Kephas, a great granddaughter Baylee Renee Bennett, along with many other loving relatives and friends.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the many dedicated nurses and aides from PCM and to the Hospice caregivers from National Church Residences.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday January 7, 2017 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Rick Phillips officiating. Interment will be in Worleys Run Cemetery with military graveside rites by the James Dickey Post American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8:00 PM on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Gideon’s International, Bethel United Methodist Church or Sierras Haven in James’s name.
