James Marley “Poppy” Adkins, 79
James Marley “Poppy” Adkins, 79, of West Portsmouth, died Friday November 25, 2016 at his home. He was born October 24, 1937 to the late Arthur and Amby Allen Adkins. He was retired from the Ohio Operating Engineers Local #18 and also worked at the Elks Country Club. Jim was a member of the Portsmouth Elks BPOE #154 and the Shawnee State University Golden Bears. He loved his family very much. He also loved to fish and play golf. Along with his Parents James was preceded in death by his wife Mary Sue Cole Adkins and a grandson Derek James Adkins.
James is survived by 3 sons; Marlin (Tammie) Adkins of Ashville, Darrin (Julie) Adkins of Stout and Jerred (Kristin) Adkins of South Bloomfield, 2 brothers; Charles E. (Virgie) Adkins of Waverly and Curtis (Carol) Adkins of Lucasville, 3 sisters; Joyce Galloway of West Portsmouth, Bonnie (Randy) Traylor of West Portsmouth, and Kathy (Jack) Terry of Grove City, 7 grandchildren: Justin, Jordan, Eric, Addison, Eli, Marleigh, and Cole Adkins, 5 great grandchildren; Mason, Rowan, Jensen, Jase and Jada Adkins, special nieces and nephews and his special friend Yvonne Bowman of Portsmouth. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Tuesday November 29, 2016 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Carl Rose officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8:00PM on Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
