Robert Steven “Bob” Messer, 71
Robert Steven “Bob” Messer, 71 of West Portsmouth died Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was born October 16, 1946 in West Portsmouth to the late William and Lorainne Starrett Messer. He was retired from CSX Railroad of Raceland, Kentucky, a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of Coles Boulevard Church of God, and a Kentucky Colonel. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Billy & Joey Messer and his twin sister, Donna Sue Messer.
Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carla Lacy Messer whom he married December 24, 1966, a son; Jerry (Melody) Messer of McDermott, a daughter, Julie (George) Essman Jr. of West Portsmouth, 6 sisters; Carol (Forse) Holbrook of Cincinnati, Helen K. Waldren of McDermott, Linda (Brian) Donahue of Wheelersburg, Patty Ann (Rick) Vournazos of Rosemount, Susan Cooper of West Portsmouth, and Mary Ann (Glenn) Bentley of South Shore, Kentucky, 2 grandchildren; Alyssa Messer and Carson Essman, several nieces and nephews that he loved, and he had a special place in his heart for Preston (Tonya) Messer, Taylor, Kelsey, and great niece Ellie.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 5, 2018 at Coles Boulevard Church of God in Portsmouth with Chad Benner officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park with graveside military rites by the James Dickey American Legion Post #23. Friends may call at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth from 5 to 8:00 PM on Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the Church. Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com.
