Josephine “Jo” Lute, 81

Josephine “Jo” Lute, 81, went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 14, 2024, at South Shore Nursing and Rehab. She was born in West Portsmouth on March 16, 1943, to the late Ruben and Peggy (Howard) Shepherd.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Stanley and Gary Shepherd and a son-in-law, Chad Weddington.

Jo was a 1963 graduate of Portsmouth West High School. After graduation she was a homemaker and took her job seriously. Along with taking care of her own children and household, she babysat many other children throughout the years and loved and cared for them each like her own. She was also a longtime member of Bible Chapel Church.

Jo is survived by her devoted husband, Charles Lute, who she married November 3, 1963; 2 sons, Keith (Jennifer) Lute and Kenneth (Sherry) Lute; 2 daughters, Kathy Jo (Jim) Hudson and Krystal (Doug Beechler) Weddington; 10 grandchildren, Josh, Marissa, Jakob, Kaila, Kendra, Dillen, Kyle, Codie, Ethan, and Connor; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; a sister, Barbara (Sonny) Brannan; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Bob Davis officiating and interment in Garvin Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday starting at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to SOMC Hospice.
