Richard Major Smith, 72

Richard Major Smith, 72, of West Portsmouth, passed Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the nursing home in South Shore, KY, surrounded by his family. He was born July 3, 1944 in Portsmouth, to the late Richard and Thelma Noel Smith. He was a long time member of Nauvoo United Methodist Church and New Beginning Church of God in West Portsmouth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Ruth Morgan, a brother Raymond Smith, both of West Portsmouth, and special friend Rosemary Papillon.

Richard is survived by his brothers Jack Smith of Dayton, OH and George L. (Beverly) Smith of South Shore, KY, and much loved niece and long-time caregiver, Jennifer Morgan Powers. Richard is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins – all who treasured him greatly.

Richard was in one of the first classes at Happy Hearts School, and worked at Star, Inc. workshop for many years. He had great faith in the Lord, and was a loving light and inspiration to all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 25, at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, with the Rev. Charles Mallory officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8pm Monday, and from 10-11am Tuesday, prior to the funeral.
