Shirley Ann Adams, 72

Shirley Ann Adams, 72 of McDermott passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family and friends.  She was born May 27, 1946 in Scioto County to the late Ralph and Edith Conkel Greathouse.  Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson; Parker Rister, a granddaughter; Aura Dawn Cain, and a sister; Melody Bakley.

She was a 1964 graduate of Portsmouth High School, received a degree from Rio Grande, a degree in Education and Costume Design at Shawnee State University, and also a Master of Fine Arts Degree at Goodard College.  She was instrumental in the Founding of The Sternwheel Regatta, Fifty Miles of Heroes Festival, and worked with the Roy Rogers Festival for many years.  She has worked for Carr’s Pizza, secretary for Barq’s bottling company and Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce, Teachers Aid for Portsmouth Public Schools, Caregiver for the disabled and elderly, as well as a Costume Designer for Shawnee State University.  

Shirley is survived by her significant other; Phil Blankenship, 2 daughters; Laura (Thom) Young of Westerville, Ohio and Tina (James) Rister of Quincy, Kentucky, a son; Ryan (Sierra) Adams of Sciotoville, and a brother; Robert Russell of Modesto, California.

She will be missed dearly by her grandchildren; Trevor and Zackary Cain, Angel, Ethan, and Mason Young, Elijah and Isiaih Adams, Marcy, Daisy, Martina, Keith, and James Lee Rister, and her only great grandson; Dakota “DJ” Mills Jr.

A visitation and gathering of family and friends will be held from 6 to 8:00 PM on Friday, August 24, 2018 at the Roger W.
