Virgil Lee Nickles, 87

Virgil Lee Nickles, 87 of West Portsmouth, passed away Thursday July 6, 2017 at Rest Haven Nursing Home. He was born April 29, 1930 in Portsmouth, to the late Walter Lee and Olive Edna Pollitt Nickles. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, a retired Tree Trimmer, a boy scouts leader, had a passion for his grandkids, and loved helping others.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints where he served as a Branch President for many years, served as an Elders Quorum, Sunday school President, as well as a missionary leader.  Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn Dye Nickles, 2 sisters; Carol Collen Johnson and Donna Jean Bradley and a brother George Joe Nickles.

Virgil is survived by a son Samuel Lee (Cindi) Nickles of McDermott, a brother Arthur (Sharon) Nickles of Piketon, a sister; Bonnie (Don) James of Ferron, Utah and 2 grandchildren; Lynzee and Nathan Nickles.

Graveside services will be held 1:00PM Tuesday July 11, 2017 at Scioto Burial Park in McDermott with Gene Cooper presiding and Jeff Brown with the reading. Military graveside rites will be presented by James Dickey Post 23 American Legion and Battery L.  Family and friends will gather starting at 12:00 PM.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Roger W.
