Ada Shepherd Patton Joseph, 81
Ada Joseph, 81, of Careys Run Pond Creek Road, Portsmouth, died at her home Sunday, October 15, 2006 surrounded by family and loved ones. She is now with her Lord. Ada was born April 9, 1925 to the late Jesse Shepherd and Curtis Wireman Shepherd. She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, but the family moved to McCoffin County, Kentucky after her birth. She was a member of Bible Chapel Church for 34 years.
Ada was preceded in death by two husbands, Omer Patton and Clyde Joseph; a son Lawrence Patton; brother Henry "Babe" Shepherd and sister Lucille Shepherd. She is survived by seven daughters, Sue Mae (Gary) Goodrich of Columbus, Ohio; Nanda (Henry) Barney and Diana (Don) Craycraft both of Greenup, Kentucky; Evelyn (Bob) Cole and Jannie Wood both of West Portsmouth, Wanda (Ron) Stevens of Portsmouth, Edie (Steve) Stiverson of Blanchester, Ohio; three sons, Clyde Joseph, Jr. of Lancaster, Ohio; Jerry (Barb) Joseph and Randall (Christy) Joseph both of West Portsmouth; daughter-in-law, Shirley (Bill) Pinkerton of Galloway, Ohio and foster son Johnny Ross of Portsmouth. 20 Grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren 11 step great grandchildren; 1 step-great great grandchild; two brothers Seldon (Ella) Shepherd of Nicholasville, Kentucky; Arlond "Ford" Shepherd of Weaver, Alabama; three sisters, Oma (Claude) Stone of Salyersville, Kentucky; Bertia McCoy of Jo-Lyn nursing home in Ironton, Ohio; Joyce (John) Allen of Lima, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews. Ada raised 11 children, 3 grandchildren and one foster son. She was a homemaker and her door was always open to anyone in need. She took in stray children just like she took in stray animals. She loved her Lord, her children, her animals, the outdoors, quilting and her life-long friend, Maxine Swords. And we all loved her.
Funeral services will be 1 P.M. Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Bible Chapel Church in West Portsmouth with Delbert Jordan and Danny Blevins officiating and interment in Mershon Cemetery.
