Barbara Ann McCall Throckmorton, 78
"Gentle of speech, beneficent of mind" Barbara Ann McCall Throckmorton, 78, of West Portsmouth died Wednesday, December 24, 2014, surrounded by her beloved children and grandchildren. She was born November 26, 1936 in West Portsmouth to the late Harry and Bessie McCall. She was preceded in death by her husband Truman Clay Throckmorton, whom she married on April 23, 1960, and infant daughter Rachel Dale in 1975. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Theodore A. and Franklin, and sisters Helen Shope, Rozella Wheelock, Jeanette Irby and Sophia Bird.
Barbara graduated from Washington High School, Portsmouth Interstate Business College, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Shawnee State University. With her husband, she owned and operated Kitchens by Throckmorton in West Portsmouth for several decades. She also worked as a Serials Librarian at Shawnee State University, from which she retired in 2006. She was a lifelong Reds fan, animal lover, avid crossword puzzler, and aspiring Jessica Fletcher.
Barbara is survived by one son Nicholas (Melissa) of Sciotoville, four daughters Rowena, Natalie and Amanda of Columbus and Althea of West Portsmouth, two granddaughters Jennifer (AJ) Pitts of Portsmouth and Kaitlyn of New Boston, along with their mother Laura Scherer Throckmorton, and four step-grandsons Zane Jr., Nathan, Shawn and Branden Haywood. She is also survived by her beloved animal companions, dogs Zoe and Oliver, and cats Bailey, Lily, Joey, Morris, Pogo, Loki, Freddy, and Mickey.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Timothy Throckmorton officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park in McDermott. Friends may call at the funeral home for two hours prior to the service on Tuesday. Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com.
