Bernice Jean Evans Newman, 78

Bernice Jean "Bernie"  Evans Newman, 78 of West Portsmouth, died Friday February 4, 2022 at SOMC Hospice. She was born March 30, 1943 in Portsmouth to the late Cecil and Adaline Jackson Evans. Along with her birth parents she is preceded in death by the parents who raised her Joe and Evelyn McGraw, a son Jerry Newman Jr., 2 brothers Cecil and Howard Evans, 2 sisters, Sara Knauff, and Frances Smith, and a grandson Jesse Butcher.

She was retired from Washington-Nile Local School District where she was a cook.

Bernice is survived by her husband Jerry Newman whom she married on December 1, 1960, 2 sons, Mark (Jennifer) Newman and Brian (Annetta) Newman, 2 brothers, James (Diane) McGraw and David (Donna) McGraw, 2 sisters; Virginia Schneller and Mary Knox, 6 grandchildren, Mark Newman II, Taylor (Garrett) Newman-Moore, Terra Butcher, Ryan Spriggs, David Spriggs, Megan Fernando, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday February 8, 2022 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Pete Shaffer officiating and interment in Mound Cemetery.
