Boone Coleman, 77, of West Portsmouth, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 in Bradenton, FL..
He was born Jan. 4, 1934 to the late Clay and Gaynelle Coleman of West Portsmouth.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Ervin Coleman and Bill Coleman, both of West Portsmouth.
Boone was the owner of Boone Coleman Construction which he began in 1957 and Portsmouth Raceway Park which he opened in 1990. Boone attended Nauvoo United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Ohio Contractors Association, the Portsmouth Area Chamber of Commerce, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and was a long time member of Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was active with numerous organizations including the Washington-Nile Local Schools, the Boy Scouts of America, Shawnee State University, Portsmouth River Days Committee, Scioto County Junior Fair Livestock Auction, KIA-MIA Foundation of Scioto County, Elks Country Club, and the Earl Thomas Conley Scholarship Fund. He dedicated his life to job creation, community service, and supporting many causes that promoted the betterment of children in our area.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Bradshaw Coleman; a son, Tim (Jenny) Coleman of West Portsmouth; two daughters, Karen Coleman and Trish (Jerry) Pickelsimer of West Portsmouth; brothers Robert (Jan) Coleman of Bradenton, Fla, Doug (Cathy) Coleman of West Portsmouth, Russell (Barbara) Coleman of West Portsmouth, and Larry (Pat) Coleman of West Portsmouth; sisters Delores (Tom) Book of Lawrenceville, Ga, and Maxine (Harry) Cassidy of West Portsmouth; grandchildren J.P. (Mindy) Pickelsimer, Jayson (Kristi) Coleman, Crystal (Mike) Adkins, Candy (Andrew) Shonkwiler, Ashley (Eric) Mowery, Taylor Keen, Victoria Keen, and Shelby Coleman, all of West Portsmouth; great-grandchildren Kayleigh and Brody Coleman, Abby and Braden Adkins, Kaylor and Levi Pickelsimer, and Gunnar Boone Shonkwiler; and many special and beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday February 10, 2011 at Nauvoo United Methodist Church in West Portsmouth with Pastor Pete Shaffer officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park.
Friends may call at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
