Charles Wesley Dickson, 78
Charles Wesley Dickson, 78 of West Portsmouth, died Sunday August 16, 2015 at SOMC Hospice. He was born January 23, 1937 in Sciotodale to the late Arthur C. and Bessie Kelly Dickson. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Ralph Dickson and a sister Joann Rockhold.
Charles was a 1955 graduate of Portsmouth West High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball. He also coached little league baseball. He was a United States Air Force Veteran, a member of the 47th A&E, stationed in Sculthorpe, England and Etain, France. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local 18 and retired from George Igel Construction Company in Columbus, Ohio. Charles also attended Hyles-Anderson College in Hammond, Indiana. He worked with a youth ministry ans was instrumental in starting a prayer group in 2 Scioto County Churches. He was a part of the Fellowship Baptist Church Bus Ministry in Columbus along with the Scioto Radio Reading Service,(Read stories for the blind) and he was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Charles is survived by his wife Pansy J. Mullen Dickson who he married on March 29, 1968, 2 daughters; Tracey Michelle (Les) Hall of Friendship and Jennifer J. Hammond of Covington, KY, 2 stepdaughters; Debra A. (Michael) House of Cincinnati and Karen S. Carter of Glasgow, KY, a sister Barbara Jane Litz of Ashville, OH, 4 grandchildren; Pamela Nicole Dickson, Aaron W. Hall, Ty E. Hall and Vincent Raposa.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday August 22, 2015 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Pastor Paul Gibson officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park with graveside military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8:00 PM on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com
