Charles Edward Lewis, 79 of West Portsmouth, died Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at his home, He was born June 19, 1946 in Portsmouth. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his grandmother that raised him Dellie Evans Lewis, a son Matthew Lewis and a daughter Beverly Lewis.

Charles was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was also a retired auto mechanic and was of the Baptist Faith.

Charles is survived by his wife Phyllis Reed Lewis whom he married on May 31, 1991, 2 sons; Charles Melvin Lewis and James Lewis, 2 daughters; Kimberly Lewis and Opal Christina Lewis, 3 step children; Lori Blevings, Brian Reed and Debbie Ramsey, 9 grandchildren; Courtney, Meleah, Dustin, Jackie, Justin, Christina, Laiken, Danielle and Isaiah, 5 step grandchildren; Zachary, Jackie, Jeromy, Kierra and Ashley along with several great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Mike Davis officiating. Interment will be in McKendree Cemetery with graveside military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday starting at 11:00 AM.
