Charles Everette Whisnant, 78
In Loving Memory of Pastor Charles Whisnant, age 78, of McDermott, Ohio, who passed away on July 15, after living courageously for sixteen years following a diagnosis of prostate cancer.
Charles Everette Whisnant was born on October 22, 1947, in Lynchburg, VA into a loving Christian family; a Baptist minister, the late Everette Whisnant, and his loving wife, Pauline Whisnant.
After graduation from Arlington Baptist College, he pursued a lifelong journey of teaching and serving the Lord as a Baptist pastor and had a deep love for God's Word. His life and ministry were grounded in the faith expressed in one of his favorite passages, Isaiah 40:31.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Charity; his children, Eric (and Leslie), Becki (and David), Chad (and Heather), and Kyle (Britt); and his grandchildren, Tyler (and Zoey), Abigail, Briley, and Trey. He is also survived by his sister, Ellen, and brother, Don (and Carole), as well as five grandpuppies and several nephews and nieces.
A celebration of life service will be held at 5:00 PM Sunday, July 19, 2026 at Victory Baptist Church in West Portsmouth with Robert Temple Sr. Officiating. Family and friends will gather at the church starting at 3:00 PM. To honor Charles and his signature style, we invite guests to wear their favorite bold neck ties and fun, colorful, and crazy socks. Graveside services will be held 2:30 PM on Monday, January 20, 2026 at Scioto Burial Park in McDermott. Arrangements are under the direction of the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth. Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to SOMC Hospice.
