Charles E. Whitt Jr. January 9, 1931 – May 16, 2026
Charles E. Whitt Jr., 95, peacefully passed away on May 16, 2026, at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio.
He was born on January 9, 1931, in Mercer County, West Virginia, to the late Charles E. Whitt Sr. and Helen E. Whitt. Charlie was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather who lived a life defined by dedication to family, service, and community.
Charlie answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy on November 13, 1951. He served honorably as a Machinist Mate aboard the USS Willard Keith until his discharge on November 10, 1955.
Following his service, he met the love of his life, Euna Jones, in Columbus, Ohio. The couple was united in marriage on February 7, 1958, in Worthington, Ohio. Together they built a loving home and raised ten children in Friendship, Ohio, where Charlie spent 63 years forming lasting friendships and becoming a respected member of the community.
Charlie was a dedicated provider who supported his large family through his work with Fairbanks Scales from 1963 to 1993. His career required him to travel throughout the tri-state area, a testament to his strong work ethic and commitment to those he loved.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Euna Whitt; his son, Estle Lynn Whitt; his brother, Joe Edd Whitt; and his sisters, Mary Mutter and Betty Jean Whitt.
He is survived by his nine children: Gary (Marcia James) Whitt, Sherry (Randy) Hurley, Charlie (Pat) Whitt, Arlene Dever, Tammy (Brian) Hammond, Dana (Shan) Robinson, Janice (the late Sean Kocheran) Kocheran, Brad (Tina) Whitt, and Charlene (Martin Fay) Whitt; his loving sister, Dixie Lee Jenkins; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish his memory and legacy.
Charlie will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his steadfast work ethic, and the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM Thursday, May 21, 2022 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, with Steve Falls officiating.
