Chester L. Locher, Jr., 78 of West Portsmouth died Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at his home. Chester was born June 6, 1926 in Portsmouth to the late Reverend Chester Lawrence Locher, Sr. and Lola E. Mitchell Locher. Chester retired from Empire Detroit Steel where he was a Supervisor; he was a WWII Navy Veteran, a member of American Legion Post 23; a member of Aurora Lodge #48F&AM and York Rite Masonic Bodies of Portsmouth, Ohio: and a long time supporter of the Portsmouth West Athletic Association.
In addition to his parents, Chester was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine Boyd Locher; a son Michael H. Locher and a sister Evelyn Chapin.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn Sue Spriggs Locher and four sons, John E. Locher of Portsmouth, Matthew (Tina) Locher of Stout, Jack (Tracy) Boyd of Rosemount, and Kevin Boyd of Mansfield; a brother, Carl Robert Locher of Rosemount; a sister Mary Alice Hayes of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, Michael Locher, Keely Nicole (Princess) Locher, and Kyle Nicolas (King) Locher; and one great grandchild Kimberly Locher.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Sunday, January 2, 2005 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Reverend David Smith officiating and interment in Mt. Zion Cemetery with Graveside Military Rites by James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 6 to 8 P.M. on Saturday and one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Masonic services by Aurora Lodge will be held at 8 P.M. Saturday.
