Chester Roy Sissel , 82
Chester Roy Sissel 82 of West Portsmouth went to be with the Lord on Friday November 30, 2007 at his residence. He was born January 13, 1925 on Mackletree in West Portsmouth to the late Andrew and Pearl Cooper Sissel. Chester was retired from Norfolk and Southern Railway. He was an Army WWII veteran where he was in the Normandy Invasion thru the Battle of The Bulge and into the Rhineland. He served with the 87th Infantry. He was decorated with the American Theater Ribbon, European Africian Eastern Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon and Army Occupation Medal. Chester also raised rabbit dogs and loved to hunt and was an avid golfer for many years. He was a devoted family man and loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Chester is survived by his wife of 59 years Phyllis Avanell Jackson Sissel, 3 sons; Stephen Wayne (Zelda) Sissel Sr of West Portsmouth, Dwight Terry (Lora)Sissel of Ripley, Randy Wallace (Ronda)Sissel of Otway, 2 daughters; Kelly Lynn (Richard) Holsinger and Lisa Marlene (Joey) Monteith both of West Portsmouth, 9 grandchildren; Christina (John) Mahle, Cassy Sissel and Stephen (Missy) Sissel Jr, Ryan Sissel, Shirese Sissel, Richie Holsinger, Trevor Holsinger , Ashley Monteith and Jason Shepard, 5 great grandchildren; John Jr., Ethan and Laycie Mahle and Audrey and Allayna Sissel, 1 bother Andrew Sissel Jr. of Friendship and 1 sister Rosie Shirey of Otway. Chester was also preceded in death by 2 brothers Delbert and Carl Sissel and 2 sisters Faye Miranda and Bertha Sissel.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday December 3, 2007 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Oscar Perry officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park with Military Graveside Rites by James Dickey Post #23 American Legion.
