Obituary

It's with heavy hearts that we announce the death of David William Berry, age 76, who passed away on June 25, 2026, at Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.Born November 2, 1949, to Helen and Robert Berry, he grew up and then later raised his family on farmland, "Berryville," that his grandmother purchased over 100 years ago.Dave was a great steward of this land and cared for it tenderly throughout his life, up until his death.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Sally Adams Berry; his daughters Melissa (Sam Moseley) Berry and Lori (Michael) Miller; and three grandsons, Ben Moseley, Mason Miller, and Luke Miller.

He leaves behind his siblings, Carolyn Pettit and John (Robin) Berry, along with many loved nieces and nephews, including Julie (Jason) Hazelbaker, Elizabeth (Byron) Wickham, Sarah (Clay) Bales, Ellen (Dru) Frazier, David (Sarah) Pettit, Lejla (Neil Harris) Bilal, and Emma Berry

As well as great-nieces and great-nephews who will forever carry his spirit: Ella, Clara, Jenna, Hanna, Grace, Callie, Lila, Jase, Graham, Miles and Penelope.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanne Elizabeth Lester, and his brothers-in-law, Dr. George Pettit and Paul Lester.

He graduated from Portsmouth West High School in 1967 and attended Ohio University. He proudly served in the Ohio National Guard, embodying the values of dedication and service that defined him throughout his life. He taught at Otway Elementary for one year and quickly realized that teaching was not for him. He had a long career in the construction industry as a project manager and estimator.

Dave loved his family passionately. His wife, daughters, and grandchildren were the love of his life. He had special relationships with all his nieces and nephews and always made them feel loved and special.

His thoughtfulness was evident in the small things, such as shipping Barq's Red Cream Soda to his nieces in Wyoming because it could not be purchased there and they missed it after moving from Ohio. When his young nephew was anxious about starting kindergarten, he showed up at breakfast with plenty of his favorite junk food.He was the life of every party, always telling jokes, threatening to "milk a mouse" with the kids, and generally being ornery.

He loved traveling, taking long car rides with Sally, spending time in his backyard pool with his family, especially his grandsons, collecting guns, maintaining Berryville, and seeing Phil Dirt and the Dozers perform. He was the "go-to guy' with questions about many topics. We will miss his knowledge and the laughter he brought.Dave's life was a testament to the strength of family bonds, the importance of kindness, and the celebration of life's simple pleasures. He will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

A visitation with the opportunity to celebrate and share stories with family and friends will be held on July 25, 2026, from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m at Roger W. Davis Funeral Home, 1310 3rd Street, West Portsmouth, Ohio. Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com.
