David Gene Canter, 68
David Gene Canter, 68, of West Portsmouth died Sunday, August 07, 2005 at his residence. David was born February 15, 1937 in West Portsmouth to the late Harrison Canter and to Delma Stone Canter who survives. He had worked for Empire Detroit Steel, National Mines Service Company and was a self-employed mechanic for Loft's Painting Company. David was a graduate of Portsmouth West High School, a member of Carey's Run Church of Christ for 46 years where he was an Elder and a Deacon and served as a lay –minister. He had many friends and told everyone he meet about Christ. He served his Country proudly during the Korean War as a member of the First Marine Division.
David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patsy L. Combs Canter; two sons, David Canter, Jr. (Cassie) of Franklin, OH, Robert W. Canter (Becky) of Longview, TX; a daughter Shelly L. (Brian) Kallas of Wheelersburg; eight grandchildren, Sara E. (Nathan) McKinley, Zachary and Jacob Canter, Jeffrey David Canter, Alexis and Rachel Canter, Lauren M. and Nickolas B. Kallas; one sister, Donna (David) Horsley and one niece and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Thursday, August 11, 2005 at the Carey's Run Church of Christ with Pastor Glenn Lawhun officiating and interment in Friendship Cemetery. Friends may call at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth from 6 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday and at the Church one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Graveside Military Rites will be given by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. The family's favorite Charity's are Hospice of Southern Ohio and Carey's Run Church of Christ.
