David Lee Grooms, 74

David Lee "Popeye" Grooms 74 of Wheelersburg, died Monday August 15, 2011 at his home. He was born November 1, 1936 in Portsmouth to the late Clarence and Olive Snyder Grooms. He retired in 1996 from Dayton Walther Corporation after 32 years of service. He also was a Marine and Navy Korean War Veteran. Along with his parents David was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Gerald and Kenneth Grooms and 2 sisters; Darlene Taylor and Carolyn Evans.

David is survived by his wife Mary Lou Roe Grooms who he married on November 17, 1974, 3 sons; David O. Grooms of South Shore, Ky., Rickey Eugene Grooms of Portsmouth and Terry Lee Grooms of Largo, Fl., 2 daughters; Peggy Sue Ratcliff of West Portsmouth and Michelle White of Wheelersburg, a brother Jackie Grooms of Loraine and a sister, Sharlon Evans of Wheelersburg, 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday August 18, 2011 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Rick Arthur officiating. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery with military graveside rites by James Dickey Post 23 American Legion.
