David Hopkins James, 78
He left his earthly home on August 26, 2008 to go to his heavenly home. David was 78 years old and had a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born August 5, 1930 in West Portsmouth to the late Jesse Wilbur and Anna Aileen Wheeler James. He was a long time Deacon of the Southern Baptist Church and a member of First Baptist Church of Beaver. He was a former manager of Christian Lumber Company in West Portsmouth, Carol Wallpaper and Paint in Portsmouth, was a salesman at Montgomery Wards Department Store, and was an innkeeper for Governor's Lodge on Lake White for 8 years. He was also an Army Korean War Veteran. He resided the last 13 years at 72 Riverdale Road in Piketon. Along with his parents David was preceded in death by 2 sisters Grace Reid and Maxine Frye and 2 brothers Sam and Harry James.
David is survived by his wife Norma Jean James whom he married on March 14, 1953 in Louisville, Ky., 3 children David James of Wheelersburg, Daniel James of Livonia, Michigan and Melanie Conley of South Webster, grandchildren; Faith, Hope, Don Jr., John, Matthew, Aimee, DJ, Sherry and Shelly, great grandchildren; Whitney, Kaylee, Bethany and Nicholas, along with 1 brother Max R. James of North Carolina.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday August 30, 2008 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Tim Hines and Gary Pack officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park with graveside military rites by James Erwin Legion Post 622 of Minford.
