David T. Mathews II, 53

David T. Mathews II, 53 of West Portsmouth , died Saturday February 14, 2015 at SOMC Hospice. He was born September 3, 1961 in Portsmouth to the late David T. Mathews and Joyce Shaw Mathews who survives. He was an employee at USEC/Martin Marietta. He was a former member of the Nile Township Fire Department and was a member of the National Guard for 12 years.

Along with his mother Joyce, David is survived by his wife Sheryl Haynes Mathews, whom he married on September 27, 1980, a son Davy (Ashley), 2 daughters; Cassie and Chandelle, 2 sisters; Terri Collins and Brenda Haynes, 3 grandchildren; Mekhi, Akin and Baylee along with several nieces and nephews and many special friends.

We are glad you are in a better place, and we wish you didn't have to leave us so soon. Just know you are loved and you will be missed by so many.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday February 19, 2015 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with James Brandenburg officiating. Interment will be in McKendree Cemetery with Military Rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to SOMC Hospice.
