Donald Wayne Journey, 80

Donald Wayne Journey 80 of West Portsmouth, Ohio, died Saturday September 20th 2014. Don, son of the late Cecil W. and Virginia Moore Journey, was born on December 22, 1933. Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ethel Conley Journey on February 20, 2012, whom he married on June 21, 1952. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers; William R. and Jack E. Journey and two sisters; Judy Duncan and Betty Raines. He passed away peacefully at SOMC Hospice after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by two daughters; Janet Ellen (Buster) Bivens of McDermott, Ohio, Karen Sue (Chad) Everhart of Coshocton, Ohio and four grandchildren; Charles Nick (Keri) Bivens of Wheelersburg, Ohio, Stephanie (Joe) Frazee of Austin, Texas, Josh Ryan (Faith) Bivens of McDermott, Ohio, Allison Everhart of Coshocton, Ohio, and seven great grandchildren; Brandon Tyler Dodridge, Tanner Cole Bivens, Morgan Paige Bivens, Charles Hunter Bivens, Breckyn Audrey Bivens, Joshua Caden Bivens, Sydney Faith Bivens and baby Frazee on the way. Don was a retired Service Mechanic Supervisor for American Electric Power of Ohio. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Dry Run Church of Christ for many years. He was an avid fisherman, loving trips to Rough River Kentucky. After retirement he participated several years in the study of karate and attained the rank of black belt. He loved being around his children, grandchildren and enjoyed the precious moments with his great grandchildren. Don spent the last four years assisting daily at his grandson's recycling business. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday September 24, 2014 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, Ohio with Mark Seevers officiating and interment at Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. The family requests that any donations be made to SOMC Hospice in Don's name.
