Dorothy June "Dot" Hoop, 97, went to be with the Lord to whom she belonged, on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at SOMC Hospice. Dot was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on June 10, 1927 to the late James Clinton Bailey and Emma Victoria Burchett Bailey. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, who she married on February 6, 1948, son James Lloyd and a 5 siblings: Esther, Chester, Avery, Audrey and Donald.
Dot began her work career at Selby Shoe Company where she worked for many years and met her husband and love of her life, Lloyd. She later worked as a teacher's aide for Washington Nile Local School District from which she retired. Dot loved children and spoke fondly of her time working with and helping them in her role as teacher's aide and mom. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years, was a Girl Scout Leader, and helped in her church in many capacities. She was a proud member of Nauvoo Global Methodist Church where she loved to attend and will be remembered coming down the aisle with her lovely smile each Sunday. Dot loved the Lord and lived her faith daily as an example to her community, friends and family. She was a loving friend, wife, mother and grandmother.
Dot is survived by her daughter Becky Reiser and her husband, Scott, three beloved grandsons Matthew Reiser and wife, Lindsey, Mason Reiser and his wife, Jordan, and Alex Reiser, and a cherished great granddaughter Isabella "Bella" Reiser. Her surviving family also includes, her baby sister, Wilma Lewallen of Tennessee, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank her faithful caregivers Claudette, Patty, Rachel and Debbie who Dot loved. They would also like to thank SOMC Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Nauvoo Global Methodist Church in West Portsmouth with Pastor Pete Shaffer officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the church on Saturday starting at 12:00 PM Noon. There will be a dinner following the burial in the church basement.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Dot be made to Nauvoo Global Methodist Church, 1403 5th Street, West Portsmouth, Ohio, 45663, or to SOMC Hospice Center, 2201 25th Street, Portsmouth, Ohio, 45662.
