Edward Blanton, 79

Edward "Ed" Blanton, 79 of West Portsmouth died Thursday January 12, 2012 at SOMC Hospice. He was born November 3, 1932 in McGoffin County, Kentucky to the late Laura Blanton VanHoose and Stepfather Clyde VanHoose. Ed spent 22 years in the United States Army, did 2 and a half tours in Vietnam and received a Bronze Star. Ed loved his country and was proud to serve it. After the service he worked as a mechanic for 19 years and was a member Friendship Church of God. Along with his parents Ed was preceded in death by 2 brothers Ovie and Jay Blanton.

Ed is survived by his wife Jacqueline Hackworth Blanton who he married on January 10, 2007 , a son Michael (Andrea) Blanton of Phoenix, AZ, 2 daughters Gina (Bill) Burchett and Kathy Blanton (Brad) both of Portsmouth , 2 brothers; Bill (Cindy) VanHoose of Blue Creek and Winford (Beverly) VanHoose of West Portsmouth, step children; Lloyd (Amy) Martin of Atlanta Ga., Tammy (Jeff) Yinger of Springfield, Debbie (Matt) Proctor of Flemming, Oh., 7 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service 1:00 PM Tuesday January 17, 2012 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with David Blevins officiating and military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends and family will gather at the funeral home starting at Noon. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to SOMC Hospice in Ed's name.
