Elbert Duane "Blackie" Black, 72


Elbert Duane "Blackie" Black, 72, of Portsmouth, Ohio passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at home. He was born March 24, 1932 in Blue Creek, the only child of Helen D. Black and the late John E. Black.

Blackie is survived by Loretta Black, daughters Pamela K. and husband Jeff Hammonds and Jhonda L. and husband Ric Gregory; grandchildren Richard Lee Strickland, III and wife Monica, John Duane Strickland, stepson Cory A. Gregory, special friends Kay Bates and Bobby Watkins and many other friends.

Blackie was a Veteran of the Korean War. He loved hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. He was retired from Plumbers and Pipefitters 577, a member of American Legion Post 23, Rome Lodge #535 and the 18th Fighter Wing Association.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Friday, July 23, 2004, at Community of Christ Church on Thomas Hollow Road in Lucasville with Elder James Webb officiating and interment in Moores Chapel Cemetery at Blue Creek. Friends may call at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth from 5 to 8 P.M. on Thursday and at the Church one hour prior to the service on Friday. Graveside Military Rites will be given by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. The family's favorite charity is Hospice of Southern Ohio.
