Elmer Issac Givens, 76

Elmer Issac Givens 76 of Friendship passed away Thursday November 6, 2008 at SOMC Hospice. He was born September 9, 1932 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Ernest and Bertha Evans Givens. He was a former employee of Empire Detroit Steel and retired form OSCO Industries. Along with his parents Elmer is preceded in death by 3 sisters; Sadie Sowards, Helen Keefer and Mary Bentley.

Elmer is survive by his wife of 56 years Carolyn Barringer Givens who he married on July 10, 1952 in Kentucky, 2 sons; Michael (Judy) Givens of Westerville and Randy (Kathy) Givens of Frazeysburg, OH, 3 grandchildren; Kara Givens of Portsmouth, Dustin Givens of Sunbury, OH and Christopher Givens of Westerville, 2 brothers; Eugene (Linda) Givens of Clearwater, FL, and Eddy (Janet) Givens of Dunedin, FL, 2 sisters; Juanita Hicks of Stout and Lorraine Abbot of Proctorville, a brother-in-law Joe Sowards of West Portsmouth and a sister-in-law Judy Whisman of Wheelersburg, along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Sunday November 9, 2008 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Pastor Peter Michael officiating and interment in Worley's Run Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 PM on Saturday and 1 hour prior to the service on Sunday. The family's favorite charity is SOMC Hospice.
