Evert Hobes, 84

Evert Hobes, 84 of McDermott died at his home Sunday, April 9, 2006. Evert was born August 17, 1921 in Millard, KY to the late George and Ada Kenrick Hobbs. Evert owned and operated Hobes Appliance for many years and retired from SOCF where he was maintenance superintendent. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, served on the USS Detroit and was a proud survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was also a member of American Legion Post 23 and Past President of the DAV. Evert was a member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge 769, Portsmouth Chapter 23, Mt. Vernon Chapter, Commandery No. 13 Knights Templar, Accacia Club, Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo and El Hasa Shriners of Ashland, KY.

Evert is survived by his wife of sixty years Betty Jean Martin Hobes; a son Rick (Elaine Sargent) Hobes of Clyde, OH; two daughters, Sharon (Tom) Crabtree and Karen (Dave) Jewett both of McDermott; a brother Gratho Hobbs; a sister Beatrice "Tubie" Sykes; 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by eight brothers, Ergil, Virgil, Argil, Tommy, Adam, Biven, Billy and Roy Hobbs; and one sister Goldie Hobbs Newsome.

Funeral Services will be 1 P.M. Thursday, April 13, 2006 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Rase Martin officiating and interment in Sunshine Ridge Cemetery. Graveside Military Rites will be given by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 5 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Masonic Services will be conducted by Nauvoo Lodge 769 at 8 P.M. on Wednesday. Memorial Contributions may be made to Shriners Childrens Hospital or Hospice of Southern Ohio.
