Gary Wayne Howell, 79
Gary Wayne Howell, 79, of West Portsmouth died at SOMC Hospice on January 18, 2024. He was born October 13, 1944, in West Portsmouth to the late William and Kathleen (Conley) Howell. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon and Larry Howell.
Gary was a 1963 graduate of Portsmouth West. After graduation he joined the Army. After serving, he returned home where he held several jobs for Montgomery Ward, a Deputy Sheriff for 12 years, and working security for Goodyear at the A-plant where he eventually retired. He loved spending time with his family and going to West sporting events to support the boy's and girl's teams. He was a statistician for the Portsmouth West Football Team, whom he always supported with great pride, for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Ellen (Duduit) Howell, who he married on March 30, 1968, at the Sciotoville Church of Christ; 2 sons, Wayne and Brian (Jenny) Howell; a daughter, Sonya (Dwayne) Downing; 7 grandchildren, Austin, Maddy, Katelyn, Karlee, Bryson, Ethan and Elin; a great grandchild, Huck; a brother, Greg Howell; a sister, Judy Reeder and many nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
Public visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Pastor Pete Shaffer Officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park with military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday starting at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Portsmouth West High School, Shawnee State University, Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Wounded Warriors Foundation, whom he all supported and donated to.
