Gary Leiland Mershon, 74

Gary Leiland Mershon, 74 of Portsmouth, died Sunday June 10, 2018 at OSU Medical Center in Columbus. He was born December 31, 1943 in West Portsmouth to the late Shirley Edward and Helena Lucinda Swords Mershon. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of American Legion Post #471, Moose Lodge # 465 and the Portsmouth Eagles.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Lawrence and Homer Mershon, 6 sisters; Delores Meadows, Dorothy Mershon. Joann Luther, Helen Summers, Lowella Teeters and Geneva Ball, and 2 brothers; Donald Earl Mershon and Shirley Edward Mershon II.

Gary is survived by a son Gary Leiland Mershon II of Leesburg, FL., a daughter, Brittany Nicole Mershon of Leesburg, FL., a brother John Mershon, a sister, Ellen Smith and 4 grandchildren; Summer Felts-Mershon, Sandra, Rhyley, and Lydia Mershon.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday June 21, 2018 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Brian Baer officiating. Interment will be in Mershon Cemetery with graveside military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday starting at Noon.
