Gene Lewis, 73

Gene Lewis, 73 of McDermott died Saturday August 2, 2014 at his home. He was born September 23, 1940 in Scioto County to the late Otto "Hop" and Lucille Daniels Lewis. He was retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad after 31 years of service. He was a Navy Veteran and a member of the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. He was also a member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge # 769. Along with his parents Gene was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Dean, Larry and Monty "Bo" Lewis and 2 sisters; Gloria Hanes and Marilyn Scott. Gene is survived by his wife Kathryn Brooks Lewis who he married on January 22, 1972, a daughter Kathy Boyd (Edward) Lynch of Boynton Beach, FL, grandson Jeremy W. (Randi) Loper of Columbus, 4 great grandchildren; Jayden, Kaylee, Makenzie and Knox, 3 brothers; Donald Lewis of Florida, Jerry Lewis of Georgia and Darrell Lewis of Delaware, OH., and a sister Joy Altiers of West Portsmouth. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday August 7, 2014 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with John Harry Euton officiating. Interment will be in Euton Cemetery with graveside military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday starting at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to SOMC Hospice, American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society in Gene's name.
