Gilbert Junior Kamer, 90

Gilbert Junior Kamer, 90 of West Portsmouth, died Thursday January 15, 2015 at SOMC Hospice. He was born July 3, 1924 in Portsmouth to the late Gilbert E. Kamer and Rachel Raike Hamm. He was a WWII Army veteran and was a part of the Normandy Invasion. He was also a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was retired from the US Postal service and a member of Central Church of Christ and the James Dickey Post # 23 American Legion. Along with his parents Gilbert was preceded in death by 4 brothers; William, Roy, Paul and Russell Kammer,

Gilbert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Faye Brown Kamer who he married on September 9, 1947, 3 daughters; Sandra (Elwood) Lewis of Clayton, NC, Joan (Dennis) Dawes of Portsmouth and Phyllis (Thomas) Logan of South Shore, 8 grandchildren; Ed (Sheila) Lewis, Eric (Kim) Lewis, Andrew (Elaine) Dawes, Daryn (Eve) Dawes, Steve (Tabitha) Dawes, Keri (Korey) Alexander, Dustin (Kim) Logan, and Jesse Logan. 6 great-grandchildren; CJ Lewis, Layla Dawes, Josie Dawes, Mason Dawes, Gavin Dawes, and Hunter Alexander.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday January 20, 2015 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Dennis Dawes officiating. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery with graveside military rites by the James Dickey Post #23 American Legion.
