Ginger Etsuko Ishmael, 79

Ginger Etsuko Ishmael, 79 of West Portsmouth, died Friday. March 13, 2026, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was born December 15, 1946, in Hawaii to the late Jack and Hazel Nakamura.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by a stepdaughter Mary Maphis, a brother, Stephen Nakamura and 3 sisters, Vivian, Naomi and Doreen.

She was a very happy person who brought joy to those around her and she was loved by all those who knew her. She loved making crafts and spending time with her beloved dog, Oodle.

Ginger is survived by her husband, David Ishmael, whom she married in 1988; 3 daughters, Renee (Dave) Hale, Jeannie (Darrell) Driscoll and Paula Strey; a stepson, Edward Ishmeal; a brother, Calvin; along with 7 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
