Helen D. Black, 91

Helen D. Black was a daughter of the late Melvin E. and Sarah Ellen Webb Bailey and was a native of Adams County. Helen was born June 11, 1914 and departed this life November 21, 2005. She is survived by two granddaughters, Pam (Jeff) Hammonds of Minford, Jhonda (Ric) Gregory of Lucasville; three great grandsons, Rick (Monica) Strickland of Wurtland, KY, John (Nikki) Strickland of McDermott, and Cory Gregory of Lucasville; one great great granddaughter Abigail Grace Strickland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband John E. Black, a ranger for Shawnee State Forestry; Sisters, Iva, Birdie, and Bertha Lee, and her only son Elbert D. Black.

Helen was a retired clerk typist for Shawnee State Forestry. She also manned the Shawnee Fire Tower on Pond Run at intervals. Helen took her work at the Forestry very seriously and often spoke of the scenery of the Forrest.

Helen will be missed by all of her many friends, and the good friends she met while attending different churches.

Helen accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior on February 3, 1974 while hearing Reverend Sam Fillmore preaching. He baptized her the next day. During her days of illness she called on God for all.

Funeral services will be at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home on Friday, November 25, 2005 with Russell Doyle officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 12 with the funeral service following the visitation at 12 noon. Helen will be laid to rest in Moore's Chapel Cemetary in Blue Creek.
