Helen Marie Christian, 87
Local Author/Historian Helen Marie Christian of McDermott dies at age 87. Helen's spirit entered the realm of outer space on Wednesday September 24, 2014. She was born at the Schirmann Hospital in Portsmouth, Ohio on October 22, 1926, the daughter of Ernest and Lena (Tschus) Enz. Ironically she died at Hempstead Manor (formerly the Schirmann Hospital) where she was born 87 years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Christian in 1986 and two brothers, Eugene Samuel Enz and Edward Ernest Enz. Surviving are two daughters, Linda (Bill) Nichols of Peebles and Vicki (Dick) Cook of McDermott. Five grandchildren, Scott (Charlotte) Cook of Kentucky, Mark (Christy) Elman of Maryland, Gabby (Stephen) Webb of Portsmouth, Summer (Heath) Drummond of Peebles and Matthew (Shelly) Nichols of Peebles. Ten great-grandchildren, Dustin, Madison, & Sam Elman of Maryland, Baylee, Wyatt & Rudy Webb of Portsmouth, Zachary & Zander Drummond of Peebles and Madison & Emmilee Nichols of Peebles. She wrote 3 histories "Echo of Rarden" in 1980, "Echo II of Rarden" in 1985 and "Echo of Otway and Brush Creek Twp." in 1988. Helen has donated her body to the Ohio State University College of Medicine and her eyes to Central Ohio Lions Eye Bank in Columbus. Roger W. Davis Funeral Home is taking care of her wishes. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery in Peebles, Ohio. She wishes to be remembered as a friend to all, with no prejudice toward anyone! The family would like to thank Dr. Patel, the staff at Hempstead Manor and SOMC Hospice for the wonderful care given to their loved one during the last few months of her life.
