Herman H. Guthrie, Jr. 62, of West Portsmouth died Tuesday, August 01, 2006 at Southern Ohio Medical Center. Herman was born May 26, 1944 in Portsmouth to the late Herman H. and Madge M. Lother Guthrie. He retired from the Norfolk and Southern Railroad where he worked as a carman. He was a member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge 769, 32 Degree mason, member and Past President of the Portsmouth Shrine Club, Syrian Shrine, Hillbillys Club, and the Lazy S Hunting Club, and a former Fire Chief of Washington Township Volunteer Fire Dept.
Herman is survived by his wife Linda Lewis Guthrie; a son Jason (Tammy) Guthrie of Friendship; two daughters, Leasly (Mark) Litteral of Wheelersburg and Missy Guthrie of Naples, FL.; two stepsons; Ted (Bea) Miller and Eddy (Jessie) Pyle both of West Portsmouth, two sisters; Carol S. Berger of Dublin, OH and Mary K. Harr (Steve) of South Shore, KY and sissy Christal (Larry) Davis of Chillicothe; five grandchildren, Jordan and Brandan Russell and Olivia, Jaydren, and Gabirella Guthrie; eight step grandchildren, Johnnie, Jessie, Jannet, Jennifer, Seth, Teddy, Mackenzie, and Jacob. Herman was preceded in death by a brother, Herman McBee; a brother-in-law Robert Berger and grandparents Charles and Opal Houston and Elmer and Mattie Guthrie.
Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Friday, August 4, 2006 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Larry Moore officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 6 to 8:30 on Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Masonic services will be held 8 P.M. Thursday by the Nauvoo Masonic Lodge.
