James Mark Stapleton, 70

James Mark Stapleton, 70 of Stout, past away Monday, January 9, 2023 at his home. He was born April 16, 1952 in Portsmouth to the late Leonard and Catherine Stapleton.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Homer, William and Bobby Stapleton and 3 sisters: Marie McKenzie, Loraine Stanley and Betty Taylor.

James retired from the Portsmouth City Waterworks after 25 years of service. He never knew a stranger. For those concerned he did make peace with God.

James is survived by his wife of 49 years, Connie Stapleton, a son Jimmy Wayne Stapleton, 2 daughters: Kimberly Hannah and Carrie Long, 7 grandchildren: Corey, Dylan, Dale, Emily, Brianna, Chelsea and Katie, 8 great grandchildren: Jude, Jonas, Lexi, Shylar, Herman Dale V, Scarlet, James and Malcom, and 2 brothers: Howard and Glenn Stapleton. He loved them all equally, very much. He was like a father figure to them.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday January 13, 2023 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Reverend Ralph Hayslip officiating.
