John D. Mershon, 88

John Mershon, 88, of West Portsmouth, Ohio, passed away February 20, 2026 at SOMC Hospice. He was born February 17, 1938 in Scioto County, Ohio, to the late Shirley Edward Mershon and Helen Lucinda (Swords) Mershon.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Earl Mershon, Homer David Mershon, Shirley Edward Mershon, Lawrence Buford Mershon, and Gary Mershon; his sisters, Dorothy Mershon, Geneva Ball, Helen Summers, Louella Teeters, Joan Luthers, Dolores Meadows, and Eileen Smith; and a great nephew, Jordan Smith.

John was a lifelong resident of West Portsmouth and shared a close bond with his family. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his nephews, Sam, Gary, Jeff, and Shannon Smith and Howard Teeters; his great nephew, Jeffrey Smith; his great nieces, Jessica Smith, Amber Cooper, Danielle Malone, Diane Smith, and Ellen Workman; along with extended family members and many great-great nieces and nephews who will miss him greatly.

Funeral services will be held at 6 PM Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Danny Thompson officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home starting at 5 PM. He will be buried at Mershon Cemetery with his family at a later date.
