L. Eugene Plummer, M.D., 72

L. Eugene Plummer, M.D., 72 of Stout died Monday October 1, 2012 at his residence.
He was born August 15, 1940 in Wheeling, WV., to the late Lewis E. and Margaret Roberts Plummer. He was a graduate of Fort Frye High School in Marietta, Ohio and furthered his education at The Ohio State University and then graduated from the Ohio State University Medical School. He was a Vietnam War Army veteran, a member of American Union Masonic Lodge # 1 and Al Bedoo Shrine in Billings, Mt. He was currently working at the VA Clinic in Portsmouth. Prior to coming to Portsmouth, Gene practiced medicine in Marietta, Ohio for over 25 years. He was the Chief of Staff at Marietta Memorial Hospital and was also the former Marietta Health Commissioner. He was also one of the founders of Safety Town in Marietta. He also practiced in Billings, Montana for 15 years at St. Vincent Healthcare and also on the Crow/Northern Cheyenne Reservation for Indian Health. He was a blacksmith and loved to do wood working.

Gene is survived by his wife Virginia Wooddell Plummer whom he married on July 4, 1990 in Marietta, 1 son Christopher Plummer of Lafayette, Ca, 2 daughters; Kimberly Kennedy of Arvada, Co., and Mary Katherine Perez of Orlando, Fl., 3 stepsons; Michael Casto of Horner, WV., James Casto of Billings MT., and Matthew Casto of Evans WV., a sister Mary Margaret Boesch of Tampa, Fl., along with 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday October 5, 2012 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Chris Wiseman officiating. Military rites will be presented by James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8:00 PM on Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
