Larry Coleman, 70
Larry Coleman, 70 of West Portsmouth died Monday June 6, 2011 at SOMC Hospice. He was born February 26, 1941 in West Portsmouth to the late Clay and Gaynelle Priode Coleman. Larry was retired from Boone Coleman Construction Company, a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18, member of the Elks Tuesday night golf league, Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department; Portsmouth Elks lodge #154, a Kentucky Colonel, as well as being an avid farmer. He always had love for horses and horse racing. Larry loved all his family and especially his grandchildren. Along with his parents Larry was preceded in death by 4 brothers; Jerry, Bill, Ervin and Boone Coleman and a nephew Steve Coleman.
Larry is survived by his wife Patricia Swearingen Coleman who he married on November 3, 1961, 3 sons; Phil (Missy) Coleman of Wheelersburg, Jason (Amy ) Coleman of West Portsmouth and Nick (Erin) Coleman of Lebanon, 2 daughters; Marcia (Bub) Cooper and Amy (Darin) Distel all of West Portsmouth, 3 brothers; Robert (Jan) Coleman of Bradenton, Fl, Russell (Barbara) Coleman and Douglas (Cathy) Coleman all of West Portsmouth, 2 sisters; Delores (Tom) Book of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Maxine (Harry ) Cassidy of West Portsmouth, 2 sisters-in-law; Joyce Coleman and Juanita Coleman both of West Portsmouth, 15 grandchildren ; Holly (Shawn) Williams, Charlie Cooper, Kaden,Kaleb,and KalleAnn Coleman, Kortney Pflegar, Sarah (Kyle) McCleese, Nathan Distel, Emma and Lauren Coleman, Cody Finley, Sophie and Cameron Coleman, 1 great grandchild; Kylee McCleese along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday June 10, 2011 at Nauvoo United Methodist Church with Reverend David Distel and Pastor Pete Shaffer officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that Memorial contributions may be made to the Ira Swearingen Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Boone Coleman Children's Fund or the Nauvoo United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund in Larry's name.
