Leland Grant Evans, 80, of West Portsmouth, OH went to his heavenly home on August 27, 2006. He passed away at Southern Ohio Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Leland was born June 27, 1926 in Portsmouth, OH to the late David Oscar and Matilda Jamison Evans. He was a graduate of Portsmouth West High School in 1944. He had worked for Gilberts Trucking, was an employee of Empire-Detroit Steel and also a World War II Army Veteran.
Leland is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Delphia Louise Distel Evans whom he married July 1, 1949. He is also survived by five loving children: Terry (Debbie) Evans of Wheelersburg, Joy (Bill) Pick of West Portsmouth, Debbie Collier of West Portsmouth, Bloss (Yvonne) Evans of Middletown, NY, and Bart (Bev) Evans of West Portsmouth. Leland leaves behind 13 grandchildren: Stacey (Chris) VanBibber, Michele (Jarodd) Lawson, Terra (Billy) Bowen, Lisa and Jason Pick, Amy, Brian and Chelsey Collier, Korey and Lindsay Evans and Zach and Kayla Evans; 8 great grandchildren, Mason and Morgan VanBibber, Jacob, Jalen and Jonah Lawson, McKenzie, Jillian and Aizak Bowen. Leland is also survived by two sisters, Wanda Jean (Bill) Diller, and Mildred Hall, a sister-in-law Gladys Parks and several nieces and nephews. Leland was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Spradlin and Evelyn Vandura, two brother-in-laws Gilbert Vendura and Ralph Hall and a son-in-law, Keith Collier.
Funeral services will be 1 P.M. Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with David Distel officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park. Graveside Military Rites will be given by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 3 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday and one hour before the service on Wednesday.
