Lillian M. Davis, 76

Lillian M. Davis, CFSP, 76, of West Portsmouth, died Sunday October 12, 2008 at her home. She was born July 11, 1932 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Howard and Helen DeMoss Yount. She was a graduate of Miami University of Ohio with a degree in education and had a Masters Degree from Marshall University. She was a retired teacher where she taught at Green High School, Clay High School and Shawnee State Community College. In 1971 she became a licensed funeral director and joined her husband in their family business. Lil and Roger started the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in August of 1964 and she worked and served the community until the day she died. She loved all the people of West Portsmouth and every family she served and was an avid supporter of the area youth and local schools. Lil was a member of Nauvoo United Methodist Church, AAUW, BPW, Shenoah Guild, Garden Club and was a former board member of SOMC, a member of the Ohio and National Funeral Directors Associations, The Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice, where she was one of the first female funeral directors to receive the distinguished honor of Certified Funeral Service Practitioner ( CFSP ). Lil was also partners with Jerry L. Russell Sr. in Southern Ohio Vault Company. Along with her parents Lil was preceded in death by her husband Roger W. Davis whom she married May 29, 1954 in Darke County, a brother Ray Yount and 2 sisters Mary Lou Akers and Jeanie Yount.

Lil is survived by her son and his wife R. Scott and Leichia Davis of West Portsmouth and a daughter Amy Sue Davis of Columbus, 3 grandchildren: Alex, Michael and Nickolas Davis of West Portsmouth, a sister Judy (Alden) Shoenleben of Bradford, a sister-in-law Faye Yount of Florida, a brother-in-law Jack (Mary Ann) Davis of South Webster and a sister-in-law Patricia (Glenn) Varney of Cincinnati. She is also survived by 2 special employees TJ Adkins and Steve Sowkulech and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday October 17, 2008 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Pastor Pete Shaffer officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may all at the Funeral home from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Thursday and from 9 until the funeral hour Friday.
