Lillie Shepherd, 85

Lillie Shepherd, 85 of West Portsmouth, died Wednesday May 14, 2008 at Golden Years Convalescent Center. She was born June 7, 1922 in West Portsmouth to the late Warney and Leona Cook Hopkins. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. Along with her parents Lillie was preceded in death by her husband Dinges Shepherd whom she married August 6, 1938 in Portsmouth, her son Reverend Danny Lee Shepherd, 4 sisters; Ruthie McGinnis, Ruby Lindsey, Ella Shepherd and Myrtle Besco and 5 grandchildren.

Lillie is survived by 4 daughters; Irene Chapman of South Shore, Ky., Judy Ann Hall of Middletown, Indiana, Joyce Kay Perry and Kathie Galloway both of West Portsmouth, a grandson she raised Jeffrey Dean Vernier of West Portsmouth, 2 brothers; Norman Hopkins and Warney Hopkins both of Hillsboro, 3 sisters; Betty VanBibber of Dayton, Jean Kyle of Alaska and Norma Jean Day of Columbus, 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday May 17, 2008 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Orville Galloway officiating and interment in Sunset Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8:00 PM on Friday and 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday. The family's favorite charity is the Alzheimer's Association.
