Lloyd Hoop, 87

Lloyd Hoop Jr., 87, of West Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 01, 2012 at SOMC Hospice after suffering from Parkinson's Disease. Lloyd was born on January 18, 1924 in Mount Joy, Ohio to the late Lloyd Hoop Sr. and Anna Ethel Minnick Hoop. Along with his parents Lloyd was preceded in death by a son, James Lloyd, and 5 siblings; Faye, Donna, Ted, Iona, and Helen.

Lloyd lived 85 of his 87 years in West Portsmouth. He graduated from Washington (West) High School in 1942. He was a foreman at Selby Shoe Factory for 12 years, and a manager at Pittsburgh Paint Store for 33 years. He helped to form the first West Portsmouth Little League and coached for many years. He was also a member of the Nauvoo Masonic Lodge # 769 in West Portsmouth, Elks Lodge #154 of Portsmouth and attended Nauvoo United Methodist Church. Lloyd was an avid league bowler in 2 leagues; the Elks League and Senior Citzens League, he was a member of the Elk's Country Club for 50 years where he played in the Elks Tuesday Night Golf League. He was league secretary for 17 years. He loved life and interacting with people and was friendly and kind to all. You could not find a more honest or loyal person on the planet. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend to many.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy June Bailey Hoop, a daughter, Becky Reiser (Scott) of Friendship, three grandchildren, Matthew Reiser (Lindsey), Mason Reiser, and Alex Reiser, all of Friendship. He is also survived by three nephews, Jack Bower (Betty) of Portsmouth, Jerry "Skip" Bower of South Shore, Kentucky and Dick Wessel (Mary Lou) of Tennessee, two brother-in-laws, Avery Bailey (Jean) of Locust Grove, Georgia and Donald Bailey (Shelva Jean) of Frenchburg, Kentucky and one sister-in-law, Wilma Lewallen of West Palm Beach, Florida.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday January 5, 2012 at Nauvoo United Methodist Church in West Portsmouth with Pastor Pete Shaffer officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the Church.
