Louis J. Shy, 89

Louis J. Shy, 89 of Portsmouth formerly of West Portsmouth, died Wednesday January 21, 2015 at his home. He was born November 19, 1925 in Portsmouth to the late George and Mary Stewart Shy. Along with his parents Louis was preceded in death by his first wife Juanita Entler Shy and a stepson Roger Gookin. Louis was retired from Martin Marietta where he was a chemical operator. He was a member of the Nauvoo United Methodist Church for over 60 years and served on the Administrative Board, the PPR Committee and was a Trustee. Louis was a Scoutmaster for Troop 36 for 22 years. He served the Boy Scouts in many capacities; District Board for 5 years, Council for 3 years, received the Silver Beaver Award in 1973 and was named Scoutmaster of the Year. He was also a member of the West Portsmouth Businessman's Club and received the man of the Year Award.

Louis is survived by his wife Alberta Gookin Shy who he married on January 17, 1980, 2 sons; Randy (Connie) Shy and Kelly (Carol) Shy all of West Portsmouth, stepdaughter Pamela (Jim) Thompson of South Point, 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday January 24, 2015 at the Nauvoo United Methodist Church in West Portsmouth with Pastor Pete Shaffer officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth from 6 to 8:00 PM on Friday and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
