Marvin R. Kennard, 81 of West Portsmouth, died Monday June 17, 2013 at Hill View Retirement Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. He was born on June 29, 1931, in West Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Letcher and Hettie Kennard. He was a retired superintendent at Goodyear Atomic Corporation in Piketon, Ohio. Mr. Kennard was owner and operator of the Shawnee Village Campground for 19 years. He attended Rehoboth Mission, Nauvoo United Methodist, and the Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene in Wheelersburg. In 1963 he served as Master of Aurora Lodge in Portsmouth, Ohio and in 1964, and 1965 serves as Master of Nauvoo Lodge (50 year member), in West Portsmouth, Ohio. In 1969, he served as District Deputy Grand Master for three years. During this period he served as Educational Officer for the 7 th district. He was also a member of the Royal Arch Masons, Mount Vernon Chapter 23, Grand Council, Select Masons of Ohio, Solomon Council 79, Calvary Commander No.13, Knight Templar and Portsmouth Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Along with his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his brother Robert Kennard, and two sisters, Lena Faye Jarrels, and Ivetta Christine Compton.
Marvin is survived by his wife Rita Mae Shivener Kennard who he married on April 12, 1952 in West Portsmouth, Ohio. One sister, Jewel Wilson, two brothers, Ernest and William Kennard all of Tifton, Georgia, one sister-in-law Wilma Kennard of West Portsmouth, Ohio, 1 son Dr. M. Richard (Pamela) Kennard of Osprey, Florida, 1 daughter Chris (Mark) Salyers of Wheelersburg, Ohio, 4 grandchildren; Ben (Christa) Kennard of Jupiter, Florida, Beth (Nathan) Key of Chester, New York, Emily (Russ) Mahoney of Avon, Indiana and Aaron Salyers of Wheelersburg, 4 great grand children; Paige and Owen Kennard, and Ethan And Noah Key and two are due this fall.
Funeral services will be 11:00am on Thursday at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, Ohio with Pastor Mike Percell officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call the funeral home form 6 to 8pm on Wednesday. There will be a Masonic Service starting at 8pm on Wednesday conducted by the Nauvoo Masonic Lodge 769.
