Mary Ann Thacker, 85

Mary Ann (Shonkwiler) Thacker, 85, of West Portsmouth, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 11, 2025. She was born on October 5, 1939 to the late Raymond Shonkwiler and Marie (Rockwell) Davis in Portsmouth, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Gary Thacker, her three brothers, Carl, Raymond, and Vernon Shonkwiler, and a special aunt that raised her, Martha Rockwell.

From driving the school bus for the Washington-Nile School District to baking pies at Union Mills Confectionery, Mary touched countless lives with her selflessness and compassion. A devoted member of Victory Baptist Church in West Portsmouth for many years, she found joy in singing for the congregation and sharing her home-cooked meals and desserts at church gatherings. Most recently, Mary has continued her love for music and fellowship at the USSA Adult Day Center in Portsmouth, OH.

Mary is survived by her children: Paul "Ed" (Joanne) Shonkwiler of Lexington, KY; Candy (Jon) Lett of Ashland, KY; Ronald "Spanky" Thacker; and Sherry (Bobby) Cole of West Portsmouth, OH. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Kassidee, Kristin, and Kaleb Shonkwiler of Lexington, KY; Alexis (Andy) Fiorita and Eli Cole of West Portsmouth, OH; and Madison and Spencer Lett of Ashland, KY. Mary leaves behind one great-grandchild, Theodore Fiorita of West Portsmouth, OH. She is also survived by her special sister, Thelma Ishmael of Georgetown, KY, along with many other relatives and friends whom she loved deeply.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Rick Ratliff officiating and interment in Friendship Cemetery.
