Mildred P. Vernier (Midge) – 88 years old, died on December 5, 2013 at The Meadows Health Care Center, Forest Park, Ohio.
Midge was born on January 15, 1925 to the late Emma (Jewell) and Vincent Ferguson in Friendship, Ohio. She was married to the late Paul L. Vernier and they lived the majority of their 65 years together in Chillicothe, Ohio. She was a volunteer counselor at The Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center in Ross County for over 20 years. Midge was one of the original "modern" women working outside of the home while raising children and volunteering in the community. She lived her life with empathy for others and embracing diversity. Midge loved to dance and will be remembered for the sparkle she brought to the dance floor and her wonderful smile. She leaves behind loving friendships and the positive influence she had on the many families whose lives she touched in her volunteer efforts.
Midge is preceded in death by her son Paul Roger Vernier and his wife Dora (Conley) Vernier, grandson Mark Edwin Vernier, great-grandson Aiden Vernier, sister-in-law Wilma Ferguson, and brother Jerry Ferguson. She is survived by her siblings: Harold (Audrey) Ferguson; Vincent (Audrey) Ferguson; Martha (Ronald) Pollard; Carl Ferguson; sisters-in-law: Rose Ferguson, Judy Cooper and Kathleen Vernier; her children: Sherry (Joe) Smith of Germantown, Ohio; Art Vernier of Phoenix, Arizona; Kevin (Trish ) Vernier of Chillicothe, Ohio; Cassie (Tim) Cottrill of Cincinnati, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday December 9, 2013 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Craddock Frye officiating and interment in Friendship Cemetery.
